We love it when super cool and creative people do new things which is why we of course love the idea (and the girls) behind Fortune Finds.

Lizzie and Kathryn Fortunato make up our favourite jewelry design team and they are, as you probably already are know, incredibly chic, well travelled and stylish. We never forget to ask them where to go while in New York - all of our favourite places are from their suggestions!

It makes perfect sense then that these two would curate a place for all the beautiful and hand-crafted items that they've collected from their travels. And as it is the season for giving we couldn't help but introduce you to Fortune Finds.

1. What's the inspiration/idea behind Fortune Finds?

Lizzie Fortunato:
I’ve always collected textiles and artisanal products. These type of “crafts” and handiworks are really important in inspiring my jewelry and leather designs and I’ve been a bit of a magpie collecting crafts wherever I go. It got to the point where our small apartment could no longer house all of my finds and I decided to begin selling them too. (Also, whenever I travel, people are asking me to buy things for them so I thought — I should offer this to everyone!). We decided that in addition to selling finds from our travels we should champion some of our artist and maker friends who really value slow, sincere production (like we do). So we’ve curated art objects from friends and artists that we admire alongside the one of a kind pieces from our travels.

Kathryn Fortunato:
Fortune Finds is really a "passion project" for Lizzie and me. Over the years we've collect so many finds from our travels and friends that it only seemed like a natural extension of our brand to introduce our customer to Lizzie's entire world.

2. What's your favourite thing to give at the holidays?

I love giving handmade or one of a kind gifts and cards. I am always crafting things and even if it is store bought (I tend to get my sister a special item of clothing!) then there’s always a hand made element (I love making cards out of fabric!) to go with it.

I have a soft spot for John Derian. I love his decoupage plates and his kitsch-y ornaments make great holiday gifts.

3. Best holiday beauty/style tip?

Layering! I wear tons of scarves and vest but then have to be able to peel things off when I’m sitting in front of the fire at home in Delaware. I’m a vest junkie.

I love a statement earring for the holidays. When you're all layered up and it's hard to wear necklaces / bracelets, an earring can really turn an outfit from day to dressy. I love our Matisse-inspired "Blue Nude" earrings for holiday.

4. Top pick from Violet?

Too many good things to mention all, but I’m particularly obsessed with Apiece Apart Anni Crewneck (so good for NYC winter) and Rachel Comey’s Idolon Clogs.

I love the clogs too! And the Des Petits Hauts Brumille sweater

5. Do you have any holiday traditions?

My mom makes a homemade coffee cake every Christmas morning. It’s delicious and I can eat about 3 pieces pre-8 AM. Other than that, spending time with family and trying to decompress from work and the city!

Yes we normally do Christmas Eve with lots of friends and then Christmas morning is about being together, eating, giving thoughtful gifts and enjoying each others' company.
